Documentaries : The Horse Doctors
In a region where many livelihoods depend on working horses, donkeys and mules, it is essential for people to keep their animals healthy. However, restricted finances, hard working conditions and a lack of education often result in debilitation or death, leaving owners without a means of income and thus worsening the state of desperate poverty within which many in Pakistan live. At the Brooke Hospital, free veterinary care and education saves the lives of animals and as a consequence, their owners and their families.
'The Horse Doctors' is an in depth look at the work of Brooke. The film spends time at the clinics, watching sick and suffering animals arrive and being treated. It follows the fate of some of the horses and the dedicated staff working in both the clinic and with the mobile units while also giving an insight into the lives of the owners and the extent to which they depend on these animals to survive.
